Philippe Aird was born on 14 July 1961. As a teenager Philippe’s paintings were seen by the acclaimed Salford artist LS Lowry, who recognized his precocious artistic talent and encouraged him to enroll at the Salford College of Art. Philippe was accepted at age 16 years.
His inventiveness and unstoppable creativity won Philippe a scholarship to the Chelsea College of Art and Design. At Chelsea he worked in a variety of media, winning in 1982, the 1st International Video Festival, sponsored by Time Out. With this sponsorship award he was able to travel and work in Europe and the United States of America.
Philippe is a prolific artist who appeared on BBC 2’s 40 Minutes. His live performance art involved painting in the nude, a new and daring concept nearly 20 years ago.
A former lecturer in Fine Art at Salford Universityt, Philippe has continued to follow his muse, constantly experimenting with new techniques.
His latest ‘spinning’ paintings, created by attaching the canvas to an old record player deck and then applying the paints to the moving surface are delicate and poetic in mood.
The Paradise and Legs series of paintings show Philippe experimenting with the human figure in time and space; are they lost under the huge hot skies or merely walking in paradise?
His pieces of work vary in size, for example 24 inches x 24 inches up to 6 feet x 5 feet.
Philippe’s work is held in the Deloitte Collection, in addition to the 42 paintings with Design Consultants, and numerous pieces hang in private collections, throughout the world
